A Springfield schools student is paying tribute to someone who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. The man died on D-Day in 1944 but until recently never had a proper eulogy at his funeral.

Joshua Fox recently went to Normandy France eulogizing a man he's never met, but someone he knows well.

The man is Private Jack William Runkel. He lived in Lucas County before enlisting in the 101st Airborne, sometime near the 1940s.

Private Runkel was a paratrooper during the invasion of Normandy. That combat mission, D-Day, turned out to be his last mission. He died in action that day.
