Debate rages over when to get your kid a cell phone
With kids using technology in the classroom and at home in everyday life, parent's opinions vary on how old a child should be when they get their first cell phone.
Psychologist Katie Kurivial at The Willow Center in Maumee says it depends on the child, but some ages may be too young.
"Kids at younger ages may have a cell phone but they don't need to have a smartphone in elementary school, if the concern is that your child has the ability to contact you, usually at that age they're around a lot of other adults and under supervision where people can help them get in touch with you if they need to."
Comments on the 13abc Facebook post varied, but many parents agreed middle school was appropriate, due to kids being involved in extracurricular activities.
