Monroe Township firefighter dies, another man hospitalized after Sunday morning boat crash

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. (WTVG) - One man is dead and another man was hospitalized after a boat crash early Sunday morning in Monroe Township.

It happened at Harbor Marine on Laplaisance Creek in Bolles Harbor around 1:00 a.m. Sunday.

A boat with two men on board hit a dock and overturned, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Officials found a 37-year-old man when they arrived at the scene and took him to the hospital. His identity has not yet been released.

Dive teams found the body of a man missing from the boat around 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The body was identified as that of Frank Brown III, a member of the Monroe Township Fire Department. He had served for 11 years and was a lieutenant.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the crash.

Multiple law enforcement and emergency service agencies responded to the crash and search mission.
