TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - He’s back ... Maybe!

Carty Finkbeiner may be running for Toledo’s top spot. The former mayor said Monday that he’s considering another mayoral run. He has until Friday to make a decision.

He hasn’t totally made up his mind. He has signatures on his petitions but none of them are turned in yet. Finkbeiner says he has the energy to give it another run if that’s the final decision.

A Facebook post Monday was the first clue. He later confirmed what was rumored, refuted, and now has life. Finkbeiner might be taking another shot as Toledo’s mayor. He says people have been asking him to run but he questioned them back.

“First, I’d like to have you tell me why you think I should consider,” said Finkbeiner.

At 82 years old, the former mayor says he’d first tackle the violence and record homicide numbers.

“We’re going to have multiple task forces. Police, Sheriff, Highway Patrol, Alcohol Tobacco Firearms, and FBI all working together. Dual cars, probably double the number of cars in the troubled neighborhoods. We’re eventually going to shut you down,” said Finkbeiner.

Finkebeiner’s two other major issues would be blight in older neighborhoods and cleaning up utility billing. The former mayor has served three previous terms in this role and stayed active in local issues. He’s touting a long resume to go along with an often feisty style.

“We did not become an All-America city because I was a weak leader or third most livable city in the world because I was a weak leader or brought Jeep to Toledo, Ohio, their plant because I was a weak leader,” said Finkbeiner.

As for Toledo needing fresh blood and new ideas, Carty says he has more than that.

“The question is never new, old, foreign, domestic blood. You want people who have intelligence and a fire in the belly to make a difference,” said Finkbeiner.

Finkbeiner has until Friday to turn his petitions in. No other candidate has turned their petitions in. It is believed that incumbent Wade Kapszukiewicz will be turning in petitions to run.
