More than 2 dozen residents evacuated during Sunday apartment fire

The Red Cross is assisting those who are without a place to stay

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Ohio (WTVG) - A fire at an apartment complex on McCord caused more than two dozen people to be evacuated from their homes.

Officials from Springfield Twp. Fire Dept. say the call came in around 8:06 p.m. at the Venetian Woods Apartment Complex on McCord Road.

A resident heard the alarm from a smoke detector in the hallway.

According to firefighters on the scene, around 30 residents were evacuated from their apartments. The Red Cross assisted six people in finding a hotel for the night, while all the others were able to return inside to their homes.

No residents or firefighters were hurt.

The fire was under control around 8:26 p.m.

Firefighters from Sylvania and Monclova also assisted in extinguishing the flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
